Stockport Grammar School: 1487 Independent Founded by Sir Edmond Shaa, goldsmith and alderman of the City of London. It moved to its site in the town on Adlington Square in 1608. Between 1830 and 1916 the school was located at the corner of Greek Street and Wellington Road in a building occupying part of the site of the present Stockport College.
