Toyoo Ashida (芦田 豊雄, Ashida Toyoo, April 21, 1944 – July 23, 2011) was a Japanese anime character designer, animation director and director. He was most notable for directing the original Vampire Hunter D anime, as well as for providing character designs for Vifam, Mashin Hero Wataru, Minky Momo and F-Zero GP Legend.
Vampire Hunter D (Japanese: 吸血鬼 (バンパイア) ハンターD, Hepburn: Banpaia Hantā Dī) is a series of novels written by Japanese author Hideyuki Kikuchi and illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano since 1983. As of February 2024, 55 novels have been published in the main series, with some novels comprising as many as four volumes.
