"Silent Running" was one of the first songs to emerge from the Rutherford/Robertson songwriting partnership. It was among a series of songs that the pair wrote in order to test the results of their collaboration. When producer Christopher Neil heard the song on a demo tape that Rutherford played, he recommended that it be used for the album. [9]
It contains two songs written by Schickele and Diane Lampert, which were performed by vocalist Joan Baez: "Silent Running" and "Rejoice in the Sun". [5] The two songs were issued as a single by Decca (32890). An LP was released by Decca in 1972 (DL 7-9188) and later reissued by Varese Sarabande on black (STV-81072) and green (VC-81072) vinyl.
The single "The Living Years" (US#1, UK#2), released in 1988, became the band's biggest hit, and featured on the band's second album Living Years.The song was written by Rutherford and Robertson after both of their fathers had recently died, but the lyrics were written solely by Robertson and centred on the unresolved dissension between Robertson and his father.
Neil then told him which bits he thought were worth developing, and Rutherford began building these pieces into full-fledged songs. Silent Running is an album by 65daysofstatic. It is an alternate soundtrack to the 1972 science fiction film , Silent Running . It was originally commissioned by Glasgow Film Festival at the beginning of 2011 as a live re-score performed by the band.
The album was produced and engineered by British-Canadian producer Terry Brown, although two tracks, "Walk on Fire" and "Till Tomorrow Comes", were produced by Andy Richards and engineered by Tony Phillips. [8]
