Polly Jean Harvey MBE (born 9 October 1969) is an English singer-songwriter. Primarily known as a vocalist and guitarist, [citation needed] she is also proficient with a wide range of instruments. [1] Harvey began her career in 1988 when she joined local band Automatic Dlamini as a vocalist, guitarist and saxophonist.
Following her departure from Automatic Dlamini in January 1991, Harvey formed the PJ Harvey Trio. The trio, which included Rob Ellis and Steve Vaughan, released Dry in 1992 on the independent label Too Pure and later released Rid of Me in 1993 on major label Island. Rid of Me is the second studio album by the English singer-songwriter PJ Harvey, released on 26 April 1993 by Island Records, approximately one year after the release of her critically acclaimed debut studio album Dry (1992). It marked a departure from Harvey's previous songwriting, being more raw and aggressive than its predecessor.
Dry is the debut studio album by the English singer-songwriter PJ Harvey, released on 30 March 1992 by Too Pure. [5] The album was recorded at The Icehouse, a local studio in Yeovil, England, and the tracks were performed by Harvey's eponymous trio.
To Bring You My Love was Harvey's first album of new material since disbanding the original PJ Harvey trio in 1993. For this recording she recruited producer Flood, her old Automatic Dlamini bandmate John Parish and a new line-up of session musicians including multi-instrumentalists Joe Gore, Eric Drew Feldman, Mick Harvey and drummer Jean-Marc Butty.
"Down by the Water" is a song by English alternative rock musician PJ Harvey. It is the seventh track and the lead single from her third studio album, To Bring You My Love, released in February 1995 on Island Records. The song was written by Harvey, and self-produced with Flood and John Parish.

AllMusic reviewer Heather Phares awarded the album four of out five stars and said the album "feels like a thank you and goodbye to a longtime friend" adding "as good as PJ Harvey's albums are, her concerts are even more striking, and her rapport with Peel just adds to the intimacy and intensity of these songs."
