Build LMMS from source. If your Linux distribution does not provide a lmms package (or only an outdated one), you can still build LMMS from source. Visit the LMMS development wiki on GitHub for instructions on how to compile LMMS for Linux.
LMMS is a free, open source, multiplatform digital audio workstation.
A visualizer can often be really hypnotic a part of the music if done well. It's not better than an actual video or animation if you're trying to ingrain an impression in the listener's head, but if unique enough, it can do a pretty good job.
Fix freeze when replacing Mallets with another instrument (#5428) DrumSynth: ensure correct envelope length in any sample rate (#5467) AFP: fix loading start and loop points if the loop point is automated (#5472) Select the correct piano key for marking semitones (#5478) Ensure consistent use of effect gate (#5475)
Just because it's a free and open source (non-commercial) project doesn't mean it can do without a brand or meaningful name. I understand the reasons for dropping the old "Linux Multi-Media Studio", but keeping it void doesn't do it much justice.
LMMS is a free, open-source software built entirely by a small number of volunteers in their free time. But to keep the project going, we need this number to grow. So if you feel like giving something back to the community, join us in making LMMS better!
It is a sound generation system, synthesizer, beat/bassline editor and MIDI control system that can power an entire home music studio. With LMMS, sounds and tones can be generated, played, and artfully arranged to create entire tracks with ease.
For those who want to make MIDI files and use them outside LMMS, here's a good tool: http://ariamaestosa.sourceforge.net/. This neatly circumvents the minor problem that LMMS doesn't export MIDI. But with good MIDI file and (for example) good SF2 (or synth preset) -> instant music!
Now you have made something that actually sounds great, it is high time for saving your project! The first time you save, LMMS will prompt you for a project name. That's entirely up to you, but LMMS also lets you decide whether your project should be compressed (.mmpz), or kept as uncompressed XML (.mmp).
