While these plants are relatively low maintenance, it’s not unusual for peace lily leaves to turn yellow here and there due to stress, pests, or other issues. This guide explains the most common ...
Growing to 20 cm (8 in) tall and 45 cm (18 in) wide, it is a spreading, dwarf succulent subshrub with arching stems of frosted leaves, and clusters of purple-veined pink flowers in spring. The plant forms dense clusters and sometimes grows epiphytically. It is completely glabrous and reaches heights of 20 to 30 centimeters.
Prolonged exposure to overspray of glyphosate will cause yellow leaves and new leaves will be small and elongated. Hormone weed sprays (e.g. 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T) may cause grotesque new growth with thin twisted leaves and distorted buds. Plants may die in severe cases.
Leaf spots can vary in size, shape, and color depending on the age and type of the cause or pathogen. Plants, shrubs and trees are weakened by the spots on the leaves as they reduce available foliar space for photosynthesis. Other forms of leaf spot diseases include leaf rust, downy mildew and blights. [4]
Puccinia thaliae is the causal agent of canna rust, a fungal disease of Canna. Symptoms include yellow to tan spots on the plant's leaves and stems. Initial disease symptoms will result in scattered sori (clustered sporangia), eventually covering the entirety of the leaf with coalescing postulates.
Leaves retain their yellow border from the initial chlorosis. Apothecia survive in the fallen plant debris over winter, releasing spores when the temperature is warm again. [ 5 ] The infection of Tar Spot is localized to the chlorotic areas on the leaves and is mostly a cosmetic issue, rather than an economically detrimental disease.
Severe cases can cause stunted growth, a spindly appearance, [4] and yellow leaves which can eventually fall off of the plant. [ 5 ] The disorder is not infectious and if edema is the only problem, then the plants are safe to handle and the parts of the plant which would usually be edible will remain safe to eat. [ 8 ]
