On June 10, 2015, Springfield School Board voted in an 8–1 decision to build a new high school. The construction of the new high school began in 2018 and was completed in early 2021. The old high school was demolished,to way for new playing fields and installation of the visiting teams bleachers which concluded in 2022. [7]

The state government had passed laws encouraging these districts to merge with one another, so the figure fell to 669, and then 501, in the 1970s and then in 1981. The school has also been a member of the Suburban One League since 1969, participating in the American Conference. From 1925 to 1969, Springfield played in the Bux-Mont league. Springfield briefly left Suburban One in the 2010-2011 school year for the Bicentennial League, but returned to Suburban One for the 2012-2013 school year.
