Theta Nu Epsilon was an American sophomore collegiate class society. Founded at Wesleyan University in 1870 as a chapter of Skull and Bones. [1] The society expanded into a new national organization that accepted members regardless of their fraternity status. [2] In 1925, it reorganized as a traditional social fraternity. [3]
In 1909, on February 14, The Alpha Rho chapter created a new society, this one for members of the senior class, called The Skulls. [5] The Skulls replaced the Theta Nu Epsilon chapter. Both the earlier and later organizations were publicly recognized by the university, and appeared each year in the university yearbook.
Meanwhile, Theta, Iota, and Kappa chapters were installed. Elected as Grand Regent in 1919 was Dr. George D. Louderback, E '96, a charter member of the Epsilon chapter. During his tenure, rapid growth continued, with nine more chapters being installed. In 1920, Schrader became the Grand Scribe, serving in this capacity for 35 years.
