Leichhardt (/ l aɪ d k ɑː t /) is a suburb in the Inner West [2] of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia.Leichhardt is located 5 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district (CBD) and is the administrative centre for the local government area (LGA) of the Inner West Council.
The last Mayor of Leichhardt was Councillor Darcy Byrne , first elected on 25 September 2012, who served until the council's amalgamation into the new Inner West Council, which was established on 12 May 2016. [4] Leichhardt Town Hall, built in 1888, was the seat of Leichhardt Council from 1888 to 2016.
Leichhardt County is one of the 141 cadastral divisions of New South Wales. It is located south of the Namoi River and includes land on both sides of the Castlereagh River , including Coonamble . Leichhardt County was named in honour of the Prussian naturalist and explorer Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Leichhardt (1813-1848).
