Rho Aquilae, ρ Aquilae, is the Bayer designation for a star in the northern constellation of Delphinus. It has an apparent visual magnitude of 4.94 [ 2 ] and is bright enough to be seen with the naked eye in good conditions.
These names of stars that have either been approved by the International Astronomical Union or which have been in somewhat recent use. IAU approval comes mostly from its Working Group on Star Names, which has been publishing a "List of IAU-approved Star Names" since 2016. As of April 2022, the list included a total of 451 proper names of stars. [1]

Among the remaining stars, the nearer ones exhibit proper motion, so it is only a matter of time before some of them cross a constellation boundary and switch constellations as a consequence. In 1992, Rho Aquilae became the first star to have its Bayer designation "invalidated" by moving to a neighbouring constellation—it is now a star of the ...
Bayer assigned a lowercase Greek letter (alpha (α), beta (β), gamma (γ), etc.) or a Latin letter (A, b, c, etc.) to each star he catalogued, combined with the Latin name of the star's parent constellation in genitive (possessive) form. The constellation name is frequently abbreviated to a standard three-letter form.
No name was given to the star in Argelander's announcement, but by October of 1856 it was being called R Aquilae, its variable star designation, in the astronomical literature. [ 9 ] [ 10 ] [ 7 ] R Aquilae is an aging red giant on the asymptotic giant branch [ 3 ] with a stellar classification that varies over time, between M5e and M9e, [ 2 ...
