Old Nissan Leaf cars are super cheap. I got mine for $7000, then sold it for $6000 a few years later when we got a Bolt. If you're doing less than 30 mi/day, its the best electric car as its super low price, roomy, and comfortable.
Unless you’re really into cars, tech, and road trips every month the tesla doesn’t really make sense, especially because its expensive and the back log is quite long on orders right now. Any other EV in my opinion doesn’t go far enough and lacks a lot of features compared to VW, Ford, or Tesla.

Hello internet! Need some help, I'm a big car guy, but don't really know anything about electric cars. I need to buy a car for my daughter, and the Nissan Leaf seems like a good option. We don't need range whatsoever, she will be driving at most 5 miles away. The size is perfect, I see the used values are really low.
Best is very relative. If the driver has a second car at home, has a garage to charge the car everyday and just needs something to drive a few miles to work and errands, even an old Nissan Leaf with half of the battery capacity but selling for a very low price would do it.
For all of the talk about how few affordable EVs there are, we kind of ignore the fact that anyone with a $15-20k budget should absolutely not be buying a new car, period. There are plenty of used cars in that price range that are totally fine, even used EVs. There are currently something like 5,000 EVs under $20k for sale on Cars.com.
Tesla Model 3 LR - Easy the best EV sedan on the road right now until we get a cheaper Model Y version. It charges fast, Tesla has 2x more charging stations and 10x more chargers than anyone else and can also use non-Tesla chargers. The tech is the best and Tesla is two generations ahead of everyone else. The interior/exterior isn't for everyone.
