I've made several wooden ladder stands. I never saw 20 foot 2 x 4's for sale so I overlap a couple of 12 footers and bolt and screw them together. Most of my wooden ladder stands are 18 feet tall. I also bolt and screw a board between the seat and the ladder portion at a 45 degree angle for added strength.

I prefer ladder stands where you can find a good tree. One item I HIGHLY recommend is a product called Ladder Stand 2nd Man. That thing is awesome. I went to move my 20 ft ladder stand last weekend to a little larger tree.

Yes, they are expensive but you definitely get what you pay for. I have sat in many of my own ladder stands as well as ladder stands from hunting outfitters in several other states and Canada and the Family Traditions are the sturdiest, quietest, and most comfortable of them all. Looking for user reviews of ladder stands that will work on crooked/leaning trees. I have looked at manufacturers websites and have read their product descriptions and reviews and would like to hear from some of you who have actually used them. Ideally around 20’ and quite.
Really liked my X-stand ladder stands until last year. After 3 seasons of sitting out they pop and creak non stop. Took them down this spring and cleaned them, replace the nylon washers and tried flex seal and its still noisy.
