In February 1999 the Department of Labour temporarily closed the North Sydney Forum. As a result of that one action, a diverse group of Northside area residents and business people came together to build a new arena. The result is the Northside Civic Centre Society and the facility itself, the Emera Centre Northside.
The Dayton Gems were a minor league ice hockey team based in Dayton, Ohio, and members of the International Hockey League from 1964 to 1977, and 1979–1980. The Gems were an expansion team assembled from various cast-offs and young players looking for their first break in minor league hockey. The team began play in 1964 in the new Hara Arena.

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks are a Junior 'A' ice hockey team based in Fruitvale, British Columbia, Canada.They are members of the Neil Murdoch Division of the Kootenay Conference of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL).
A senior team with the same name also competed in the Carillon Senior Hockey League until 2013. The minor hockey organization (U7-U18) changed its name from Mitchell Mohawks to Mitchell Mustangs in 2020. [1] The junior team, established in 1988, competed in the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League. The team has won two league championships.
The GlacierCats were popular in their first year but were forced to suspend operations permanently [2] in April 2000 largely due to competition by the Arkansas RiverBlades of the East Coast Hockey League who played at the newly opened ALLTEL Arena in North Little Rock, directly across the Arkansas River from downtown Little Rock.
