The school acquired 231 acres (93 ha) in Gahanna (eight miles northeast of Columbus), raised funds, and built a new campus. The original five-building complex served the school well until the student body exceeded 600 boys. In the mid-'70s, the school undertook a major building program that added a lower school wing and the Schoedinger Theatre.
In 1996, Worthington Christian faculty member Dwayne K. Smith was accused of fondling a middle school female student at the school. After he admitted to the behavior and went through counseling, the school hired him back. Smith remained a teacher until 2008, when the local news ran a story on him as part of a series on teacher misconduct.
The school was founded in 1923 by Bishop James J. Hartley as a high school and college seminary for the education of Catholic priests for the service of the Diocese of Columbus. The first classes, consisting of 27 boys, were held at Sacred Heart School, an all-girls Catholic school, while the main school building was being built from 1923 to 1925.
Beechcroft High School is a four-year high school (grades 9–12) located on the north side of Columbus, Ohio. It is a part of Columbus City Schools. Beechcroft was first opened in 1976 as a six-year junior/senior high school. At that time, school enrollment peaked at 1,200+ students. Current enrollment is 658 students (2022-23).
