Hamburg Police Museum (Polizeimuseum Hamburg) is a museum based within the Hamburg Police Academy in the Hamburg-Winterhude district of Hamburg in northern Germany. It presents around 200 years of policing in the city , [ 1 ] forensic methods and criminal cases from the early 20th century onwards.
It reopened on 17 July 2015 as the Reichshof Hamburg, Curio Collection by Hilton. [4] The renovated hotel has 278 guest rooms, 6 junior suites and 3 One-Bedroom Suites, 10 conference and meeting rooms and a modern spa and fitness area. [5] On 27 July 2021, the hotel left the Curio Collection by Hilton. It operates today as an independent hotel. [6]
Following the end of World War II, it was requisitioned by the British Armed Forces and used as their Hamburg headquarters from 1945 to 1950. The hotel reopened on 1 March 1950. [2] In 1957, the hotel was sold to the Kempinski chain. [3] In 1994, German financier Dieter Bock sold Kempinski Hotels, but maintained ownership of the Hotel Atlantic. [4]
The hotel is named after the shipbroker John Fontenay, who acquired a large plot of land in front of the Dammtor at the Aussenalster in 1816, through which today the street Fontenay runs.
