The junction between Federal Highways 2 and 15 in rural Imuris, Sonora. Fed. 2 travels east towards Agua Prieta and Ciudad Juarez while Fed. 15 continues northward towards the U.S.-Mexican border crossing in Heroica Nogales, Sonora. Traffic on Fed-15 south of Santa Ana increases as the highway approaches the Sonoran state capital of Hermosillo.
Bowman Hotel in Nogales, Arizona was built in 1917. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. [1] It was then the oldest hotel building surviving in Nogales. It was deemed significant in its use of fired (glazed) brick in its facade, being one of only two buildings in Nogales with that.
The route was originally established as a state highway in 1956, from Interstate 19 in Nogales to U.S. Route 89. In 1974, the route was formally established in the city of Nogales with its current routing from the Mexican border to I-19 Business. The route was established by 1926, where it existed as an unpaved road along its current route. [4] By 1940, the route was paved northeast from Nogales to Patagonia. [5] A section from Whetstone to the eastern terminus was also paved by 1942. [6] The remaining middle portion of the route was paved by 1946. [7]
The route offers access to the Showdown Ski Area and Sluice Boxes State Park. The route travels over the Kings Hill Pass which snow removal crews work to keep open throughout the winter season. [7] The northern terminus of US 89 is at the Canadian border. There, the highway continues into Canada as Alberta Highway 2.
Arizona State Route 93, abbreviated SR 93, was a state highway in Arizona that existed from 1946 to 1991. [2] [3] The route was co-signed with other highways along nearly all of its route from Kingman to the border at Nogales. SR 93 was the original designation for the highway from Kingman to Wickenburg, which was built in 1946.
