The South Australian Bushmen (known as the South Australian Citizen Bushmen to distinguish them from the later South Australian Imperial Bushmen) was a mounted infantry squadron of the Colony of South Australia that served in the Second Boer War, the third contingent contributed by the colony.
In August 1944 the Australian Bushmen's Carnival Association (ABCA) was formed by the Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales, as a result of the increase in the number of bushmen's carnivals. The purpose of this formation was to standardise regulations and rules, but insufficient support was given and the association was terminated in 1947.
The largest and oldest event is run by the Australian Professional Rodeo Association, held each year in January over 4 days at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, Queensland. The APRA event was first held in 1960 as the first in Australian rodeo history.

Bushmen's Carnival Association was founded in Maitland, New South Wales north of Newcastle. The two associations are now the Australian Bushmen's Campdraft & Rodeo Association (ABCRA).
The National Campdraft Council of Australia was formed around 2000 and oversees the four campdrafting bodies which are the Australian Bushmen's Campdraft and Rodeo Association (based in Tamworth), the Australian Campdraft Association (in Queensland), the Southern Campdrafters Association and Gippsland Campdraft Association (GCA).
