Tatsuhiko Katayama, their editor, was worried about the one-shot crusade being too dark for the young demographic and asked Gotouge if they could write another type of the main character who would be "brighter". Angered by Tanjiro's persistence, Kyogai attacks erratically, recalling painful memories from his human life of being mocked for his drumming. Despite his injuries, Tanjiro maintains his Water Breathing and beheads Kyogai. He hears Tanjiro acknowledge his Blood Demon Art and cries as he fades to ash, his drum playing finally recognized.
Shinjuro, the former Flame Hashira but now an alcoholic who detests the Demon Slayers and sees his sons as failures, dismisses Tanjiro violently. However, when he sees Tanjiro's earrings, he explains to him he is a bearer of the first breathing technique, called "Sun Breathing". It follows teenage Tanjiro Kamado, who strives to become a Demon Slayer after his family was slaughtered and his younger sister, Nezuko, is turned into a demon. The series' first season premiered in April 2019, having aired on Tokyo MX and other networks, while from the second season onwards it has aired on Fuji TV .
As Tanjiro attempts to recover from his wound, Kyojuro arrives to help teach him how to stabilize it with his breathing techniques. Suddenly, they are attacked by Upper Rank Three of the Twelve Kizuki, Akaza , who tries to persuade Kyojuro to turn into a demon and become immortal, after sensing his already immense power.
