Joseph K. Rogers was the first branch president at Pima, being appointed to this office before the settlers arrived. The branch was organized into a ward in 1880. In 1930 the total population of Pima was 980, 666 of whom were LDS, and a total of 1,260 people resided within the Pima ward boundaries. [10]
The first missionaries of the LDS Church arrived in North Dakota in 1885, and the first LDS meetinghouse was built in 1919 in Sully Lake. [6] However the first stake in North Dakota was not organized until 1977 in Fargo. [7] North Dakota was the final US state to have a stake within its boundaries. [6]
In 1957, the Atlanta Stake was created, taking the northern two-thirds of the state with 3,000 members with wards in Atlanta (2), Columbus, Macon, and Empire. Branches for the stake was located in Buchanan, Athens, Gibson, Milledgeville, and Palmetto. The remainder of the state was covered by the Georgia-Florida and South Georgia districts. [10]
While there is no temples in Mississippi, 2 temples that lie in close proximity serve the large majority of the members in the state. While most congregations are in the Memphis and Baton Rouge temple districts, one congregation, the Columbus Ward, on the eastern side of the state is in the Birmingham Alabama Temple District.
In 2016, all four missions in the state had drastic changes made to their boundaries. [7] Before the boundary changes the four missions were as listed: the Boise, Nampa, Pocatello, and Twin Falls missions. As a result of the boundary changes the Twin Falls mission was renamed to the Idaho Falls mission.
