The International S series is a range of trucks that was manufactured by International Harvester (later Navistar International) from 1977 to 2001. Introduced to consolidate the medium-duty IHC Loadstar and heavy-duty IHC Fleetstar into a single product range, the S series was slotted below the Transtar and Paystar Class 8 conventionals.
For 1995, along with all other International medium-duty trucks, the 3800 received chrome hood badges denoting the model series and its engine type; the grille badging changed from red to chrome. A key event that would affect school bus manufacturing during the later 1990s was the completion of the acquisition of AmTran by Navistar in April 1995.
The medium-duty 1930 A-series trucks received the all-new 278.7 cu in (4.6 L) FB-3 six-cylinder engine, with overhead valves and seven main bearings. This was complemented by larger versions of the same engine and was built until late 1940 (as the FBB), [7] the line-up being expanded downward by the smaller FA-series (later FAB) in 1933. [8]
Now names in order from lightest to heaviest, the range started with the 1-short-ton (907 kg) Model 21 and continued with the 1 + 1 ⁄ 2-short-ton (1,361 kg) Model 31, 2-short-ton (1,814 kg) Model 41, 3-short-ton (2,722 kg) Model 61, and ended with the 5-short-ton (4,536 kg) Model 101; the Model 101 only entered production during 1922. From 1983 to 2010, Ford Motor Company offered International V8 diesel engines in heavy-duty pickup trucks, vans, and SUVs (using the Power Stroke name after 1994).
The Navistar DT (Diesel Turbocharged or Diesel Turbo) engine family is a line of mid-range inline-6 diesel engines.With horsepower ratings ranging from 170 hp (130 kW) to 350 hp (260 kW), the Navistar DT engines are used primarily in medium-duty truck and bus applications such as school buses, although some versions have been developed for heavy-duty regional-haul and severe-service applications.
The International Fleetstar is a series of heavy-duty trucks that was produced between 1962 and 1977 by International Harvester.Slotted above the Loadstar and below the Paystar and Transtar conventionals introduced after it, the Fleetstar was the first truck line that International designed specifically for vocational use.
