Wayzata (/ w aɪ ˈ z ɛ t ə / wy-ZET-ə) is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 4,434 at the 2020 census . [ 2 ] The city is about 12 miles (19 kilometres) west of Minneapolis and is situated on the northern shore of Lake Minnetonka , the ninth largest lake in the state.
Rufus Randall Rand Jr. (May 25, 1892 – October 15, 1971) [1] was an American businessman, military officer and politician who served as the first mayor of Wayzata, Minnesota, beginning in 1929. He was the maternal grandfather of Sheldon Whitehouse, a United States Senator from Rhode Island. [2]
The Marriott Corporation was a hospitality company that operated from 1927 until 1993. It was founded by J. Willard Marriott and Frank J. Kimball as Hot Shoppes, Inc. In 1957, it opened its first hotel in Arlington County, Virginia, the Marriott Motor Hotel (demolished 1990).

Its name comes from its address: 33 South Sixth Street, Minneapolis. It was completed in 1983 [3] as headquarters for International Multifoods Corporation, which occupied the structure until 1997 when it moved to suburban Wayzata. Although the corporate offices relocated, the name remained until 2003 under the terms of its lease. [4]
