The main choir, Bluevale Singers, had over 100 members in 2013. [citation needed] The music program features instrumental, vocal and guitar courses. The Grade 7&8 students all go on an overnight Band and Drama tour each year which usually alternates between Québec City, Québec and Ottawa, Ontario. JKCS also participates in the Battle of the Books each year with two teams; the junior team, which is grades 4-6, and the senior team, which is grades 7&8.
Serving students from grade 7 to 12, it is one of three schools in the Toronto Catholic District School Board that is an elementary and secondary hybrid (the others being Francis Libermann Catholic High School and St. Michael's Choir School). In 2009, the music program received a $10,000 grant from the MusiCounts Band Aid Program. [6] On July 8, 2014, the Brookfield Choir performed "I Want to Know What Love Is" onstage with Foreigner during their performance at Ottawa Bluesfest. The choir also has many other annual events, formerly including the Show Choir Canada Competition held at the Sony Center in Toronto. In 2012, St Peter Catholic High School's students performed and won a national bronze medal, only behind choirs from two of the audition-based performing schools of art located in Toronto. [6]
EQAO scores are broadly in line with provincial standards. Specifically, elementary schools in the TDSB 75% of grade 3 students met the provincial standard (compared to 75% provincial average, 72% met the writing provincial standard (compared to 74% provincial average), and 61% met the mathematics provincial standard (compare to 62% provincial average).
