Magoffin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky.As of the 2020 census, the population was 11,637. [1] Its county seat is Salyersville. [2] The county was formed in 1860 from adjacent portions of Floyd, Johnson, and Morgan Counties.

Salyersville (/ ˈ s æ l j ər z v əl /) [3] is a home rule-class city [7] on the Licking River in Magoffin County, Kentucky, in the United States. It is the seat of its county. [ 8 ] As of the 2020 census , the population was 1,591, [ 5 ] down from 1,883 in 2010 .
It lies along Route 7 southeast of the city of Salyersville, the county seat of Magoffin County. [1] Its elevation is 1,001 feet (305 m). [2] A post office was established in the community in 1936. The first postmaster is said to have taken the name Gunlock from a newspaper article he read about a western ranch. [3]
