Boxer briefs (sometimes spelled boxer-briefs or called tight boxers, also known as A-Fronts) are a hybrid type of men's undergarment which are long in the leg, similar to boxer shorts, but tight-fitting like briefs. They emerged as a style in the 1990s and are commonly worn for sports and as every-day underwear.
According to Hanes marketing director John Wigodsky, women purchased fashion briefs for their husbands for aesthetic reasons, and therefore fashion briefs became more popular with men. [1] In 1990 Tom Zucco of the Tampa Bay Times interviewed menswear sellers: one worker stated that about 50% of the underpants sold were white briefs.
Bali began in 1927 with Sara Stein as Fay-Miss. In 1935 the company changed its name to Bali Brassiere Company. Bali merged with Hanes Corporation in 1969. [1] Hanes was then sold to Chicago-based Consolidated Foods Company, which became Sara Lee Corporation in 1985.
On July 15, 2016, Hanes acquired the Australian-based clothing and underwear and clothing company Pacific Brands [13] In October 2017, Hanes announced a $60 million acquisition of Norcross, GA based Alternative Apparel. [14] In 2018, the company opened its first brick-and-mortar Champion brand retail store in Los Angeles. [15]
