Count von Count (known simply as the Count) is a Muppet character on the PBS/HBO children's television show Sesame Street. He is meant to parody Bela Lugosi 's vampiric character, Count Dracula . His first appearance on the show was in the 4th season premiere in 1972, where he counts blocks in a sketch with Bert and Ernie .
Pinball Number Count was originally produced in 1976 by Imagination, Inc. in San Francisco, California for the Children's Television Workshop. The segments made their debut on Sesame Street during Season 8 in 1977, and they were shown regularly until Season 33 in 2002.
Starting with season 45, Count von Count took the lead of a new song (along with Big Bird, Abby Cadabby, Elmo, Grover, Bert, Ernie, Cookie Monster, Rosita and Murray Monster), encouraging viewers as they introduced the number of the day. A similar version debuted in season 47, led by Cookie Monster.
