A Trick of the Tail is the seventh studio album by English progressive rock band Genesis.It was released on 13 February 1976 on Charisma Records and was the first album to feature drummer Phil Collins as lead vocalist following the departure of Peter Gabriel.
Genesis survived Gabriel's departure in 1975, with Collins taking over as lead singer, releasing the top three album A Trick of the Tail the following year. [8] Hackett left in 1977, reducing the group to a trio of Banks, Rutherford and Collins.
"A Trick of the Tail" was the third Genesis song to be accompanied by a promotional video, and the first single featuring Phil Collins as the band's lead vocalist. Previously their drummer, frequently singing backing vocals, Collins was now the band's lead singer, while continuing to play drums and percussion.
A Trick of the Tail was released in February 1976 and was a commercial and critical success for the band. The album reached No. 3 in the UK [121] and No. 31 in the US. [22] The title track was released as a single, though it did not chart. [122]

Following the album's release, Genesis embarked on a world tour covering Europe, North America, and their first dates in South America. The tour marked the first time Chester Thompson was hired as their touring drummer; Thompson replaced Bill Bruford who played drums on the A Trick of the Tail tour. [5]
