Every walmart in My area is stocking a Mossberg 308. On the sight it's called the ATR 100 "night train". The ones at walmart are the same rifle, 308, black synthetic stock. with no accessories. No scope or bi pod included. They're only $229.
Great rifle and way more accurate than a rifle of that price should be. Easily, consistently shoots 3/4" 5 shot groups at 100 yards. Usually with 4 shots touching and 1 spreading the group out. I'd prefer the wood or laminate stocked version.
The original post was .243 or .308 for SHTF. Along with a weapon around $500, bolt action rifle for targets around 200 yards. For the price and caliber to the original post, I'd look at the Ruger American (under $400) and if these were choices in caliber, I'd prefer .308 over .243.
Fast forward to last weekend.. yeah, six months later I finally got my converted 308 up to my hunting property range to try out. HOLY COW!!!! What a difference the conversion made. The trigger, while long and a bit spongy is smooth with a nice letoff. The stock is comfortable to shoot and the rifle is actually fun to shoot unlike many 308 rifles.
So, I have been in the process of building an AR10/308 AR for about a year and a half. I made the decision to go with PSA mostly because of the prices. After buying a Gen 1 lower at the end of 2015 I started to research what others had used with their builds.

Hey guys new to the forum. So here is just my opinion I have a brake on my 308 Rem700 and its as easy on my shoulder as my AR15 in 22-250 but is a little louder. I am saving for a silencer from thunderbeast now. Like some others have mentioned make sure your gunsmith has done this multiple time w/ success.
As far as a rifle, I'd probably grab my 16" POF P308 Recon. The rifle pick was difficult as I was really contemplating grabbing an AR15 instead, The .223 and ammo would be much lighter and easier to carry then the AR10 with full .308 mags. I would also be able to carry more ammo in .223.

A little background...I'm new to the bolt gun world, besides my old Mosin Nagant. I had decided it was time to pick up something decent and found a Ruger American in .308 at my local walmart. The only reason I picked it up, was because they also had 6 boxes of ammo for it on the shelf (cheap $9.99 TulAmmo).
