Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a 2020 first-person shooter game co-developed by Treyarch and Raven Software and published by Activision.It is the seventeenth installment of the Call of Duty series and is the sixth entry in the Black Ops sub-series, following Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (2018).
The engine has been distinct from the id Tech 3 engine on which it is based since Call of Duty 2 in 2005. The engine's name was not publicized until IGN was told at the E3 2009 by the studio that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) would run on the "IW 4.0 engine". [5]
Raven was the primary developer on two games since then: the China-exclusive Call of Duty Online (2015) and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered (2016), a remaster of the 2007 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare packaged with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

The map's setting was also changed from a Cold War one to one in the future, set in 2065. This version of the map was known as "Nuk3town." [6] "Nuketown" once again returned in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (2018), with the setting once again being changed, this time to a Russian test site set on top of an underground bunker. [7]
PC World ' s Brad Chacos praised the map's inclusion in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, describing the map as making up for the issues present within the game. Similarly to other writers, he highlighted the maps fast paced combat, which he viewed as allowing him to work around the games weapon upgrade system, which he saw as being flawed.
