Some artists visited India to learn music and later started introducing light music. Ananda Samarakone was the pioneer of this attempt also composing the Sri Lankan National Anthem. Then Sunil Santha who also did not stick to Hindustani music introduced light music of his own, influenced by the Geethika ( Christian hymns ) tradition of Sri Lanka.

Bathiya & Santhush (Sinhala: භාතිය හා සන්තුෂ්), also known as BnS, are a Sri Lankan pop duo consisting of Bathiya Jayakody (born on December 22, 1976) and Santhush Weeraman (born on September 5, 1977), who met while at the "Mary Anne David School of Vocal Music and" in Colombo (training mainly under the categories of classical and show tunes). The Gypsies are a Sri Lankan baila band that performs Sinhala and English songs. [1] The band was founded in the early 1970s and has since garnered a huge fan base across Sri Lanka and is one of Sri Lanka's most famous bands. [2] They are a highly paid band in Sri Lanka, as they constantly perform at parties, dances and at many concerts.
