Nepal contains most of the Himalayas, the highest mountain range in the world. Eight of the fourteen eight-thousanders are located in the country, either in whole or shared across a border with China or India. Nepal has the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest at an astonishing height of 8,848.86m as well as 1,310 peaks over 6,000 m height.

A peak has a different definition to a mountain and different authorities may use different definitions of either.

The High mountain region has 12,062 km 2 of natural water bodies, snow/glaciers and 13,105 km 2 barren areas. Forests 25.4% of Nepal's land area, or about 36,360 km 2 (14,039 sq mi) is covered with forest according to FAO figures from 2005.
