Gorakhpur district is one of the 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh state in northern India. This district is a part of the Gorakhpur division. This district is a part of the Gorakhpur division. The city of Gorakhpur , or Gorakhpur is the administrative headquarters of this district and Gorakhpur division.
In the year 1801, the region was transferred by the Nawab of Awadh to the British East India Company and Gorakhpur was raised to the status of a district. In 1829, Gorakhpur was made the headquarters of a division of the same name, comprising the districts of Gorakhpur, Ghazipur and Azamgarh. R.M. Biad was the first appointed Commissioner.
After the state government approved integrated divisional office complexes for Gorakhpur and Varanasi division which will have offices of all divisional officers under one roof. A remodeling of the Gorakhpur railway station was launched in 2009. The remodeling work was completed on a war footing within the scheduled time. Gorakhpur–Siliguri Expressway is an approved 519 km (322 mi) long, four-lane (expandable to 6) access-controlled greenfield expressway, which will connect the city of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh with the city of Siliguri in West Bengal, India. [2]
