Alden is a village in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 2,605 in the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village is centrally located within the town of Alden. Its principal street is Broadway (U.S. Route 20).
It lies in New York's Hudson Valley region, near the Wallkill River and the foothills of the Shawangunk Mountains. Middletown is situated between Port Jervis and Newburgh, New York. At the 2020 United States census, the city's population was 30,345, reflecting an increase of 2,259 from the 28,086 counted in the 2010 census. The ZIP Code is 10940
The town of Alden, which had previously been part of Clarence, was established on March 27, 1823, and codified in the Laws of the State of New York, Sess.46, ch. 89 (1823). [3] Part of Alden was later given up to form the town of Marilla in 1853. Ewell Free Library in Alden was built in 1913.
The Buffalo Correctional Facility was a minimum security prison for males in New York, United States. The prison was located in town of Alden, east of the Buffalo, adjacent to the Wende Correctional Facility. As of 2012, the facility has been closed by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. [1]
Grades four and five were consolidated into the Middle School. At the November 2015 Board of Education meeting, due to the increased population at Alden Primary, the Board voted to reopen Alden Intermediate School in September 2016. The building was built and opened in 1936 as an addition to Alden High School and was dedicated on May 14, 1937.
