The ministry was formed on 27 June 2011 by Presidential Decree 65/2011, following a proposal by Prime Minister George Papandreou.It resulted from the division of the Ministry of the Interior, Decentralization and Electronic Governance and, in particular, the establishment of the General Secretariat of Public Administration and Electronic Governance as a separate ministry.
