Mooney is a region of the City of Visalia, California. The Mooney area is north of Tulare , east of County Center Drive, west of Giddings Street and south of Green Acres . It refers to those areas that are centered on Mooney Boulevard roughly between Main St. and Visalia Parkway.
From 1916 to 1980, it was located in Mooney Grove Park, at 27000 South Mooney Boulevard, in Visalia. It was toppled by an earthquake in 1980 and destroyed; its internal metal had rusted away. Only the base remains. [2] [3] However, it remains listed on the National Register.
The lake was named for Jason Mooney who was a Stafford sheriff's deputy who died in the line of work in 2007. The lake is primarily used as a long-term water supply reservoir for Stafford County, and is also available for recreation. [2] The lake is stocked with game fish and officially opened for sport fishing in July 2017. [4] [5]
