The Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC) is a high school athletics conference in Connecticut. The conference comprises schools located along the Long Island Sound . The SCC is composed of 22 high schools, representing 16 communities, with over 23,000 students.
Prior to the 1980s, high school sports leagues in Connecticut tended to be smaller than they are today and were composed of schools that were very close, geographically, and often represented student bodies that were fairly similar in composition.
During the winter of 2009, the existing 12 member schools of the NVL voted in favor of admitting two new schools into the league: Derby High School, moving over from the SCC (Southern Connecticut Conference), and St. Paul Catholic High School of Bristol, which would have been forced to play independently upon the disbanding of the Northwest Conference.
Lewis S. Mills High School was a member until the 2019-2020 season, when they decided to join the Central Connecticut Conference due to concerns about declining enrollment and sports-participation at the other schools.
