Michael James Hucknall [1] (born 8 June 1960) is an English singer and songwriter. Hucknall achieved international fame in the 1980s as the lead singer and songwriter of the soul-influenced pop band Simply Red, with whom he enjoyed a 25-year career and sold over 50 million albums.
Chris Joyce (born 11 October 1957 in Manchester, England) [1] is an English musician, known for being the drummer with various groups and with Simply Red in the 1980s. Coming from Chorlton, Manchester, he adopted the hippie lifestyle. [2]
[3] He co-wrote several of Simply Red's songs with frontman Mick Hucknall and sang background vocals. He also sang the lead vocals in the song "Wonderland" from the Stars album. He was a founder member of the band, and played from their debut album Picture Book in 1985 until their 1995 album Life . [ 4 ]
He played saxophone with the British soul and pop band Simply Red from 1986 until the band retired in 2010. [1] He reprised his role in the band when it reformed in 2015, and played on their 2019 album, Blue Eyed Soul. He is the second longest running member of the band, behind founder and lead vocalist Mick Hucknall. [1]
