The table below lists all the talukas (tahsils/tehsils) of all the thirty-six districts in the Indian state of Maharashtra, along with district-subdivision and urban status information of headquarters villages/towns, as all talukas are intermediate level panchayats between the zilla parishad (district councils) at the district level and gram panchayats (village councils) at the lower level.
Maharashtra is an Indian state that was formed on 1 May 1960 with 26 initial districts. Since then, 11 additional districts have been created, the most recent of which is Palghar district. At the time of the 2011 census, the taluka had a population of 184,665, of which 15,761 (8.53%) lived in urban areas. Dharni had a sex ratio of 967 females per 1000 males and a literacy rate of 64.49% for the population 7 years and above. 14.81% of the population was under 6 years of age.
Maharashtra is the third most urbanised state in India with 42.23% of its population living in urban areas, compared with the national average of 31.16%. The urban population grew by 23.7% in the 2001–2011 period to 50.8 million and now has the highest number of people living in urban areas. [ 1 ]
