The Peshawar High Court (PHC, Urdu: عدالتِ عالیہ پشاور) is the provincial and highest judicial institution of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan. It is located in the provincial capital Peshawar .
As the province of West Pakistan was dissolved in 1970, three high courts were established: Lahore High Court, Peshawar High Court, and Sind and Balochistan High Court (with its principal seat at Karachi). [6] In 1976 the Sindh and Balochistan High Court was split into the High Court of Sind (Karachi) and the High Court of Balochistan (Quetta). [7]
He became an advocate of the high court in 2006. Initially serving as an additional advocate general (AAG) in the first Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2013, he resumed the AAG role after the formation of the second PTI government in 2018. He actively represented the government in various significant cases. [2]
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council also known as KP Bar Council is a statutory & deliberative assembly of lawyers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for safeguarding the rights, interests and privileges of practicing lawyers, within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.
He obtained the license to practice law in lower courts in 1999 and for the high court and Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2001 and 2014, respectively. [2]Initially appointed as an additional judge in the PHC on 19 August 2019, Anwar was sworn in as a confirmed judge of the PHC on 5 August 2021.
He also served as President of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association from 2013 to 2014. [2] He was appointed as an additional Justice of the Peshawar High Court on 12 August 2016. [5] On 1 June 2018, he took oath as the permanent judge of the PHC. [3] On 13 April 2024, he was appointed as acting Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court. [6]
