In 2017 Ohio State announced plans for the development of a new hospital and several large ambulatory centers. The new medical tower will include more than 800 beds, 60 neonatal intensive care unit bassinets, and state-of-the-art inpatient service areas. University leaders hope the new hospital tower will be completed by 2025. [4]
The hospital served patients from 51 countries and 50 states in fiscal 2018. It recorded 1,281,902 patient encounters, 951,434 outpatient specialty visits, 173,023 Emergency and Urgent Care visits, 83,162 outpatient primary care visits, 34,295 surgical procedures and 46,214 surgical hours.
The Midwifery Clinic encouraged prenatal care for its patients, who averaged 7.7 prenatal visits from 1933 to 1952. In incidents of complications, midwives at the Clinic would also refer patients to the care of a physician. These efforts certainly contributed to the low maternal mortality rate at the MCA.
