Ten years later in 2001, Cossatot Technical College joined the University of Arkansas System, becoming Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas. [2] Since then, the college has expanded to offer Technical Certificates in seven programs, Certificates of Proficiency in thirteen programs, and five Associate's Degree programs.
The Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design began in 1946-47 as architecture courses within the College of Engineering, with John G. Williams teaching 17 students, including future faculty members E. Fay Jones and Ernie Jacks. In 1948, the architecture program transferred into the College of Arts and Sciences.
The college's first president, Dr. Terry J. Puckett (1992–2000), was appointed by the board effective December 1, 1992. To better reflect the college's service area, it changed its name from Pines Technical College to Southeast Arkansas Technical College on July 1, 1996. The word "Technical" was removed from the college's name on July 8, 1998.
In 2003, the college opened up a child care center. It works to provide free daycare for up to 54 of the children of students. [2] In 2015, the college started a 13 million dollar project to combine three of the school's centers: Harry L. Crisp Center, the Burdette Center and the Aircraft & Metals Engineering Center. [3]
