The Douglas County Courthouse in Lawrence, Kansas is a three-and-a-half-story stone building erected in 1903. [2] It was designed by noted 19th-century architect John G. Haskell in association with another architect, Frederick C. Gunn. [2] It is a Richardsonian Romanesque work. [3]: 29–30

English Lutheran Church is a historic church at 1040 New Hampshire Street in Lawrence, Kansas. It was built in c.1870 and expanded in 1900. [2] It was added to the National Register in 1995. [1] It is a two-story church built of rusticated limestone on a limestone block foundation. It is about 46 by 78 feet (14 m × 24 m) in plan. [2]
Lawrence was the first city in Kansas to enact an ordinance prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation (enacted in 1995, after a campaign called Simply Equal). On October 4, 2011, Lawrence became the first city in Kansas to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity with the passage of City Ordinance No. 8672. [241]
