Petra (4 November 1962 – 14 September 1977) was a female mongrel that appeared on Blue Peter between 1962 and 1977. Petra was the first Blue Peter pet, and remains one of the best known. Up to May 2011, Petra is the longest-serving Blue Peter pet. [2] She was weighed on one of the episodes and found to weigh about 2 stone (28 lb; 13 kg).
The Blue Peter pets are the animals who regularly appear on the programme. These include dogs, cats, parrots and tortoises. Blue Peter pets have included a cat called Socks and another cat called Cookie; and one tortoise called Shelley. Dog Mabel retired on 30 March 2010 after 14 years on the show.
