Alan Alexander Milne (/ m ɪ l n /; 18 January 1882 – 31 January 1956) was an English writer best known for his books about the teddy bear Winnie-the-Pooh, as well as children's poetry. Milne was primarily a playwright before the huge success of Winnie-the-Pooh overshadowed his previous work.

Now We Are Six is a 1927 book of children's poetry by A. A. Milne, with illustrations by E. H. Shepard.It is the second collection of children's poems following Milne's When We Were Very Young, which was first published in 1924.

The collection was the author's second children's book and first book of prose for children, appearing between his poetry collection When We Were Very Young (1924) and Winnie-the-Pooh (1926). The twelve Henriette Willebeek Le Mair illustrations were originally commissioned by the Colgate company for a series of magazine advertisements.
Though Milne is best known for his classic children's books, he also wrote extensively for adults, most notably in Punch, to which he was a contributor and later assistant editor. The Sunny Side collects his columns for Punch , which include poems, essays and short stories, from 1912 to 1920.
