Turtle Island Lighthouse Restoration Association bought the island in the early 1990s with plan to expand the island and rebuild the lighthouse, but it did not work out leading to sale in 1995. A new lighthouse, the structure which stands today, was completed in 1862. This light served as a navigational aid until 1909, in which year the light tower was removed from atop the dwelling.
