Het Steen (literally: 'The Stone'). Antwerp was developed as a fortified city, but very little remains of the 10th century enceinte.Only some remains of the first city wall can be seen near the Vleeshuis museum at the corner of Bloedberg and Burchtgracht, and a replica of a burg (castle) named Steen has been partly rebuilt near the Scheldt-quais during the 19th century.

Jacob Roelofs van Deventer (c. 1500/1505 in Kampen – 1575 in Cologne) was a Netherlandish cartographer of the Renaissance. He is today best known for his work in systematically cartographing all towns and cities of the Habsburg Netherlands of his time.

[4] The Middelburg stock exchange was opened in 1592, then Rotterdam in 1595 and Amsterdam in 1611. The first building in Brabant's late Gothic style dates from 1531, after a design by Domien de Waghemakere.

Van den Queborn was born in Antwerp. According to the RKD he became a member of the Antwerp Guild of St. Luke in 1577, but left the city and joined the guild in Middelburg in 1579. [1] In 1594 he became court painter to Prince Maurits. [1] He died in The Hague.
