An unassembled IKEA flat-pack stool. Ready-to-assemble furniture (RTA), also known as knock-down furniture (KD), flat-pack furniture, or kit furniture, is a form of furniture that requires customer assembly. The separate components are packed for sale in cartons which also contain assembly instructions and sometimes hardware.
Black & Decker had trouble keeping up with demand for the Workmate in the UK, but was still unconvinced of how well the Workmate would be accepted in the United States. The Japanese designer, Noboru Nakamura , created the original "Poem" chair in 1975 in collaboration with product manager Lars Engman, who later headed up the IKEA design team. [ 3 ] [ 4 ] [ 5 ] The design of both the Poem and Poäng chairs resemble that of the " Armchair 406 ," created by the Finnish designer Alvar Aalto in 1939.
