Skyway Fishing Pier State Park is a Florida State Park located on the north and south sides of the mouth of Tampa Bay. When the original cantilevered Sunshine Skyway Bridge , carrying I-275 ( US 19 ), partially collapsed in 1980, due to the collision of a freighter on one of its pilings, it was replaced by the current bridges.
Development of the park began in 1892 with the construction of the Ballast Point Pavilion by Chester and Emelia Chapin, who came to Tampa from New York. [1] The park was a destination stop on the Consumers Electric Light and Street Railway Company, a predecessor of the later Tampa Electric Company (TECO) streetcar system .
Cockroach Bay Aquatic Preserve is a protected area that includes 4,800 acres of partially submerged lands in Hillsborough County near Ruskin, Florida south of Tampa, Florida. Archaeological evidence from indigenous tribes has been found in the area.

Tampa's first water plant went into operation on April 20, 1899, operated by the private Tampa Waterworks Company.
