The Object 268 (Объект 268) was a prototype Soviet tank destroyer developed from 1952 to 1956 by the Kirov factory, Leningrad, on the basis of the T-10 heavy tank. [ 1 ] This tank destroyer was heavily armoured and featured a 152 mm M64 gun, derived from the 152mm M53 mounted on the SU-152G .
The tank was based on the T-80's chassis, using a new turret, and was armed with an LP-83 152.4 mm smoothbore gun. A variant of the tank utilizing a rifled 152mm armament was never completed. Like most Soviet tanks, the gun offered poor depression, and the LP-83 offered a slower reload despite the presence of an autoloader .
With the start of Operation Barbarossa, as the German forces approached Moscow and the Kubinka proving grounds, the two SU-14 and T-100Y prototypes were shipped to Kazan in the fall of 1941, where they served as specimens in technical courses, returning to Kubinka in 1943. The first prototype, as SU-14, was scrapped in 1960.
