The fourth season of the television comedy series The Middle began airing on September 26, 2012 on ABC in the United States. It is produced by Blackie and Blondie Productions and Warner Bros. Television with series creators DeAnn Heline and Eileen Heisler as executive producers.
On March 3, 2016, ABC renewed the series for an eighth season. [1] On January 25, 2017, ABC renewed the series for a ninth season, later announced to be the show's last. [2] [3] During the course of the series, 215 episodes of The Middle aired over nine seasons.
The series was picked up for a full season of 24 episodes after airing just two episodes. [10] On January 12, 2010, ABC Entertainment President Steve McPherson announced that he was renewing The Middle for a second season. [11] [12] The show was renewed for a third season. The third season premiered with a one-hour episode on September 21, 2011.
The season was dubbed as "The Farewell Season" and ran for 24 episodes. [ 1 ] The show is about a working-class family led by Frances "Frankie" Heck ( Patricia Heaton ), a middle-aged Midwestern woman married to Michael "Mike" Heck ( Neil Flynn ), who resides in the small fictional town of Orson, Indiana.
From season 5, episode 4 ("The 100th"), Nancy and Frankie's friendship has waned a little, mainly because Nancy overheard Mike and Frankie talking about her. In season 7, episode 18 ("A Very Donahue Vacation") Nancy's daughter, Shelly hears Frankie talking about Nancy and tells her. However, Nancy forgives Frankie and they remain good friends.
