The Lotus 900 series is a family of internal combustion engines designed and built by Lotus Cars of United Kingdom. Successor to the Lotus-Ford Twin Cam, the 900 was the first complete engine developed by Lotus. The engine was built from 1972 to 1999. [1]
The Lotus 907 was the first production variant of the Lotus 900 series engine. It was first installed in the Jensen-Healey, making it the initial production car to feature the 907 engine. When Vauxhall unveiled its new slant-four engine at the 1967 Earls Court Motor Show, the bore centres of the engine were identical to those proposed by Lotus.
The Lotus 900 series engine block was cast in aluminium alloy instead of iron, which made it considerably lighter than the Slant-4. The Lotus engine also used a cylinder head of light alloy that featured double overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. With a few modifications the Lotus head could be fitted to the Vauxhall block.
